- Take pictures from your dog's level. It is amazing how much difference this small point makes. Either sit on the floor, place the camera on the floor, or stage your puppy on a table.
- Select your background. You can have the greatest shot in the world and yet have a cluttered background and end up with a poor picture. Green fabric or grass make an excellent background as it contrast well against. a tan colored Shar-Pei. Water is the greatest choice of backgrounds always.
- Use visual props such as toys, outfits, or other items that add creative detail. Generally, one brightly colored toy with a simple design is best.
- Be prepared. If you are prepared, you can focus on getting the best possible picture. If you are not, the small details, batteries, memory cards, backgrounds, and such will be occupying your time. Have treats on hand to reward your dog for sitting and staying.
- Get some help. You will need extra help managing your dog while you manage the camera. You need someone to arrange backdrops, comb hair, wipe eyes, and make sure your dog remains safe, especially when outside.
